A Free Guide to Buying Chilean Homes and Land
Chile's Lake District has often been compared to Switzerland or the Rocky Mountains of Colorado (if they had volcanoes). This area of Southern Chile is situated within the mountain range separating Chile from Argentina, and stretches from Temuco in the north to Puerto Montt in the South (see map below).
The Lake District is a favored destination among adventure travelers, skiers, snowboarders, fly fisherman, and those looking to escape the city life of Santiago.
The real estate market in this part of Chile is growing rapidly as large tracts of land once owned by German immigrants and native Chilean families are being divided up into smaller plots for foreign investors, retired Americans and Canadians, and affluent Chileans.
It is no wonder that people from around the world are gobbling up real estate in the Lake District. The area is famous for its stunning scenery: deep blue-green mountain lakes, snow-capped volcanoes, waterfalls, thick forests... and the many activities available: world-class ski resorts, award-winning fly fishing, local festivals, wine tasting...
The Lake District consists of twelve major lakes and dozens of smaller lakes, thermal hot springs, and six volcanoes.
The climate is somewhat rainy and generally temperate. Spring and summer are a little drier and lasts from November to April. The climate is wetter from May to October, and can be fairly cold.

Temuco (see map) is the capital of La Araucanía and gateway to the Conguilio National Park, and to the resorts of Villarica and Pucon. Puerto Montt (see map) is the capital of Los Lagos, and gateway to Chiloé, Aisén and Chilean Patagonia where the islands and fjords of Patagonia begin. |
