News for Visitors to Chile

- Attention U.S. Visitors -

Beginning October 23, 2006 all applicants for U.S. tourist, student and other non-immigrant visas must use the on-line version of the visa application form (DS-156) known as the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF).

The EVAF can be accessed through the US Embassy in Chile website www.usembassy.cl. When the barcode on the EVAF is scanned at the Embassy, the information is immediately transferred into the consular computer system. Mandatory use of EVAF eliminates the data-entry burden associated with the previous DS-156, which could be completed by hand. EVAF thus allows the Embassy to process applications more efficiently, to the benefit of the traveling public.

Nonimmigrant visa applicants with consular interviews scheduled on or after October 23, 2006 must fill in the EVAF online and print all three completed pages, including the bar code.

The EVAF may be completed by third parties, but the applicant must sign the document and is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all the information contained therein.

The process for applying for a visa has not changed. The completed and printed EVAF should be submitted to the Embassy through authorized travel agencies or the offices of Chilexpress. The EVAF procedures do not apply to supplementary nonimmigrant visa forms DS-157 or DS-158.

More information about the nonimmigrant visa application process can be found on the nonimmigrant visa section of the Embassy website.
